Camp de réfugiés de ATSACamp de réfugiés de ATSA
(English below)
In response to paper by Jean-François Nadeau in Le Devoir of November 3, 2007, which talked among other things, about the ATSA refugee camp in the square Berri: "Everything else, despite the beauty of gestures, will always do what more or less compares to rescuing drowned people. You take them out of the water. You dry them, dress them. You make them eat at the table with the crew of the vessel. And at the end of the evening, because you can't keep them, you throw them overboard and promise to send them food." This is really cheap when to create a controversy you taper on initiatives of artists who are trying in their own way to bring a little joy into the lives of the homeless. Why does a newspaper like Le Devoir need to bitch about projects like ATSA? I participated from the outset in this refugee camp who for a week brings a bit of warmth and pleasure to people who have nothing. I am the MC of the bingo each year and the tent is full. People crie out and jump for joy. The pleasure of seeing a poor devil win a new and hot mantle, or a meal at the restaurant or tickets to go see a movie at the cinema. I also preside the banquet with Stephane Crete, and here again it is wonderful to see the gang being served beautiful dishes . It may be IN in the salons to denigrate, with a finger in the air, these artists who each year make a little dent in the fold of poverty. If these itinerants that you do not know could answer you, it would be with the middle finger in the. I participated in two stages clown in orphanages in Russia and China with Dr. Patch Adams. Patch Adams said that if he could bring about an hour of joy in the lives of these children, that would be good already. Because this hour will remain forever in the hearts of these children. An hour Mr. Nadeau in the hearts of those drowned as you say. If Le Devoir also organized a week for the homeless, that would be two weeks. And if other groups organized weeks, we would eventually have one week per month. When you are a reject of the society, sometimes even just a hello or a smile, can you give a little recognition at the bottom of one's hearth. Have you lost the pedals Mr. Nadeau? You who are familiar with the history of resistance by the absurd cartoonists of old newspapers in Quebec. Can't you simply recognize that there are still people who have a big heart. Some creative artists work like crazy to make this event a dream location for a short period. You have a heart of stone if you do not understand well the enormous impact that this small refugee camp brings to those who come here to eat, sleep warm or have fun. The role of artists is not that of the government. The artists create things in order to show everyone the tremendous suffering of the homeless. The tendency of some media to denigrate students strike, welfare recipients and those artists who are working hard to help the less fortunate, this trend vehicles the mainstream onetrack mind. It seems to me that there should be other targets to aim at. There are lots of artistic events bon chic bon genre. So Mr. Nadeau why don't you spend a few hours at refugee camp or go spend a week, they need volunteers or lifegards to rescue the drowned. http://atsa.qc.ca/pages/etatdurgence2007benevoles.asp Francis Yo Gourd, foulosophe and chairman of the party neorhino Canada. |
